Prabha Eye Clinic was started in 1940 by Dr. B K Narayana Rao, he was one of the first Indian Ophthalmologists qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons, London. He also played a major role in the establishment of various medical institutes and hospitals like the Bangalore Medical College and Minto Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.

Dr. H Krishnamurthy took over from where Dr. BK Narayana Rao had left, and played a pivotal role in establishing Prabha as a one of its kind institutes in the entire country. Over the next few decades Dr. H Krishnamurthy extended Prabha Eye Clinic’s services into philanthropic efforts by providing free treatment to the deserving poor.
