About Himalayan Ecosystems in Address, Chandigarh

This page is to aware people of the different ecosystems our 2500 kms long, the highest and the youngest mountain range of the world, "Himalayas", possess. This page was initially started for the participants of the Leadership programme on Himalayan Ecosystems, a distance learning course at IGNOU, New Delhi. But it caters to everyone across the globe.
It is estimated that the Himalayas are approximately 160 to 400 km. in width and the length of the Central Axial Range (CAR); the Great Himalayan Range is 2500 km. The general gradient of these ranges show inclination towards the Indus-Ganga-Brahmaputra (the Great Indian Plain) in the South and more gently inclined slope towards Tibet in the North. The general alignment of the ranges varies from the North-West (Jammu & Kashmir) to North-East. It is from North-West to South-East directions in Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, and to some extent in Uttarakhand, which gradually goes under change and runs from the West to East directions in Nepal and Darjeeling and Sikkim Himalayas, before it changes from South-West to North-East directions in Bhutan and Arunachal Himalayas, which once again goes under radical change in the direction from North to South in Purvachal Himalayas (Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram).
This shall also encourage anyone with interests to understand the Himalayan ecology.
