The Bait ’13 – Debating’s next big thing is back again !!!


Debating is simply an expression of the individual. It is a mode of communication which allows both the participants as well as the audience to experience a sense of learning and enrichment at the end of it. For the onlookers, it is more than mere entertainment. It offers an opportunity to listen, learn and be inspired. For the participants, it is a confidence-booster as well as a platform to voice their views and make a difference. Though a debate is defined as 'the formal presentation of a stated proposition and the opposition to it', we know it is a lot more than just that.

The Bait is the annual debating meet and competition conducted by The Debate Club, Chennai. Almost three years ago, The Debate Club was born with the goal to spread the spirit of debating amongst today's youngsters and incite in them the passion to make their voices heard. Conducted over two days, it is the perfect platform for potential leaders and future visionaries to take a stand and make a difference. The Bait '13 is the fourth edition of the event, aiming to express more, engage more and educate more.This year will see the Bait expand to the cities of Bengaluru,Coimbatore, Kochi and Hyderabad.

The Bait is an ambitious project which is looking to have wide reach and impact within its target audience, the youth. The primary goal is to provoke ideas and encourage stimulating thought processes. The Bait hopes to be the first step into making India a global debating hub and Indian students a debating authority to reckon with, a force of intellectual thinkers on par with the best in the world. During the course of the event, the organizers intend to inculcate in all involved students the questioning mind and spirit, to break barriers and defy stereotypes. By debating over various topics, we look to identify the spots of grey in what is often perceived as a world of black and white. At the conclusion of the two-day event, we look to have recognized the best debating talent of the region, students who can not only convince verbally but also convert that conviction into action and solutions to the problems we, as a community, face today.

The Bait '13 will be an event worth waiting for in every student's academic calender.
