About FREEDOM in # 7-1-309/A/35, BK Guda, SR Nagar, Hyderabad

This age-old practice has an immense value to farming and we can simply increase the capacity of water bodies by Desilting without acquiring extra land. Thus, it assumed a great significance. Hence, there has been a tremendous response from farmers to our initiative. This Project has 3 components: Silt Excavation from Tank bed, Transportation to agriculture fields and Spreading.

Silt quantity available in a village tank of 50acres with 2m silt depth accrued over the time is 4000X50X2=400000 cubic meters (160000 tractors). There are 1100 such villages in Nalgonda district alone. This work can be undertaken only in Summer before Monsoon when tanks are dry and farmers are free. Since it is too difficult for labor to do such a Herculean work at sweltering 40o- 45oC temp, employing Machinery is indispensable.

Machinery is used for dig the Silt and load tractors. On the field, farmers would evenly spread these mounds for farm preparations. FREEDOM’s role is mainly to organize silt Excavation and Transportation. In course of evolution, we designed a project Model wherein small farmers are motivated to contribute for Excavation cost and govt bears cost of Transportation & Spreading.

Execution of this testing work includes procedure like conducting Gram Sabhas, liaison with Govt, organizing Machines, conflict management, etc. Hectic activity prevails due to simultaneous overlapping of several things in a short time. Ensuring prompt payments to beneficiaries from govt has always been an ordeal.
