Many excavations were conducted in Meenadam during the British occupancy to unearth iron deposits from the arannil kunnu. The pits from those excavations remain today, as well as some deep wells. These pits might have been dug out with machinery, or perhaps a meteorite might have fallen there.EtymologyIt is said that the name "Meenadom" derives from "veenadom" as the meteorite fell down here.
