About Nalanda Project in 536A, Avior Building, Nirmal Galaxy, LBS Marg, Mulund West, Mumbai

Nalanda Project is a EdTech initiative, which empowers students to take charge of their learning and allows teachers to efficiently deliver classroom instructions. Nalanda Project, under the purview of Motivation For Excellence Foundation, is a not-for profit initiative that provides their product free of cost to low-income schools across 7 locations in India. Through the project, we partner with government, private, and civil society organisations to share the knowledge and explore the potential of learning mathematics using a blend of teacher instruction and self-learning through an offline digital learning tool in schools.

Nalanda Project also provides teachers with training and support on how to blend technology with their traditional classroom practice. Across our network, teachers employ Nalanda through a rotation model. For at least 80 minutes each week, students use the tablets to practice and apply what they have learned in class. During this period, the teacher acts as a facilitator, enabling students to learn independently while still offering personalized support. The Nalanda Project also enables self-paced learning: Different students can simultaneously work on different material. Those who have mastered a concept no longer have to wait for the teacher’s instructions to move on. Instead, they can use their tablets to push themselves to a new level of understanding. At the same time, struggling students can continue to practice a given concept without feeling like they are behind. Our blended learning pedagogy empowers students and teachers alike, regardless of internet connectivity, electricity, teacher expertise, or student learning levels.

We are currently implementing the project in collaboration with different partner organizations across 4 states (Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Rajasthan) in India having reached to 55 schools, 229 classrooms in the Academic Year 2017-18. Since 2013 and as of 2017, we have reached to more than 10161 students in 7 cities. In the coming year, Nalanda Project plans to expand further and create its presence so that more and more students learn.
