Along with Pratham’s visionary thought that ‘every child in the school and learning well’, the organization has reached the 2.2 million children through its various educational programs. Pratham works in both urban and rural contexts across 21 states of India. In the state of Maharashtra Pratham’s Read India Program is being run through 45 BEPs with the help of government schools and community. Since read India is one of the landmark programs of the state, however there are several other programs like Urban Learning Centre (ULC) program, ‘Library’ program, Scholarship Program and PACE program have created their own impact in their respective areas.

In Maharashtra Read India is community based program and it has divided into two forms i.e. DRC and BEP. As of now 4 DRC (Ratnagiri, Nashik, Nadurbar, Aurangabad) and 11BEP (Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sindudurg, Thane, Ahmadnager, Latur, Amravati, Nagpur, Beed) have been formed in the state.

In addition to the Read India Program, Pratham has launched and successfully implemented its ‘Education for Education’ program (EFE Centers) for Read India volunteers who teach children at village level. The aim EFE is to give the volunteers a form of self-sustenance and motivation to continue teaching. Because of this program (EFE) volunteers’ attrition rate has been reduced in some amount.
